Comments: somebody's doing it right

Thanks Jeff for your wonderful post about Shiloh Shepherds and the breed founder Tina Barber. Tina has dedicated her life to this breed and without her the Shiloh Shepherd would not exist today. I own two Shilohs both from New Zion. When I first got one my vet immediately became concerned, asking me if I had gotten him from a local breeder in my area. When I told her no that I had gotten him from the breed founder at New Zion she was greatly relieved. She told me that every Shiloh that she has seen was purchased from a local breeder ( one of the splinter breeders )and all of them had seriouse health issues. I did alot of research before purchasing my Shilohs and came to the conclusion that only the ISSR registerd Shilohs are worth owning. Tina and her daughter are always there to answer questions and guide you. The temperments of my dogs are exceptional. They are extremely intelligent and loving. My vet is so pleased with my Shilohs that she has told me that next year when I have puppies available, she will recommend me to anyone interested in a Shiloh. So Jeff once again I thank you for the wonderful things you said about the Shiloh Shepherd and the breed founder, Tina Barber. And to Tina Barber I thank you for all your hard work and dedication. You have truly made this breed one of the most exceptional dogs out there.

Wow, Jeff! What a great post about our Shilohs. You are amongst the many (myself included) that have seen the amazing qualities in these dogs. We proudly have two Shilohs in our family and ar looking for another. When we got our first Shiloh, we really had no intention of becoming breeders and such huge advocates for this wonderful breed but in a very short time, we were so impressed with our boy that we knew that we wanted to share these special dogs with others. The regulations that we follow to have the privilege to be breeders sometimes seems a bit daunting but is so worth the effort to be "doing it right" and knowing that the dogs we produce are superior and will bring the people who own them joy for many years! Thanks again for your support!

I first began my own personal research of the Shiloh Shepherd in '95. As a professional trainer with a strong background in competition in obedience, tracking and retriever trials - I was looking for something special...
I lived just outside of Wash DC and after being a victim of a home invasion twice in one week - I was searching for a breed who I could also depend on to protect my home & my family.
I purchased my first Shiloh in '97, he is one of the first dogs listed on the Shiloh Heros website and he has far exceeded my expectations.
He was followed by my second and third Shiloh, both of which came from New Zion. They are each spectacular individuals in their own right. I am very proud of all of my ISSR Shilohs.
But I must make special mention of my boy who I brought home at 2 yrs of age from New Zion. Just about 18 mths later... he recently just became one of the first Shilohs in the history of the breed to earn a title from the AHBA.
Thanks Ma & thanks to her daughter,Lisa, for all these Shilohs that make our dreams come true!
Thank you Jeff, for your acurate and insightful post!

Nice post Jeff. I just got my first Shiloh this year after some serious research. She is everything I expected her to be and more!

Thanks to MaShiloh not only for bringing us this wonderful breed but for her willingness to share her knowledge with us! I look forward to having a small part in the future of the breed so many more people can experience their magic!

I am currently awaiting my second Shiloh. One is just not enough!

Hi Jeff,

I did lots of research before getting my Shiloh. I heard of the great dogs, but also heard of the wannabes, and didn't want to get sucked into that trap. What you have said is wonderful, but doesn't compare to the dog itself.

You HAVE to get one to understand. My dog's intelligence surpises me everyday. They are truly wonderous creatures.

You don't have to post this. I just wrote it for you.

Thank you for the great article about the Shiloh Shepherd. The Shiloh Shepherd is the shepherd I remember from my childhood...my parents always had a big, stable tempered shepherd. I was so happy to rediscover them 4 years ago. I thought they had been lost forever, but thanks to a wonderful, driven vision of one woman, Tina Barber, and all the licensed ISSR breeders working under her guidence, they are still with us today. I am owned by three great Shilohs... Allie, Foxy, and Toran...all from New Zion Shilohs, and it is a true joy to share my life with them....they are my best friends.

Hi JJeff! Wow, it has been years. I was the secretary for the SSDCA when you joined way back when. I am glad you looked up our beautiful Tina Marie and now we are all in touch again. I remember when the Canine Diversity website first made its way into the mainstream and all the "buzz" that it caused. I bet you never imagined it would be so big. I also bet you miss Dr. Armstrong (I think you two were good associates). I miss him. We still love our Shilohs more than ever and I hope to get to see your breed someday. Best wishes, Wendy

What Tina has been able to do accomplish with the Shilohs is most impressive and I for one am truely grateful to her. I have three Shiloh Shepherds that I think are the most magnificant animals I have ever owned. Two are Canine Good Citizens, one is a therapy dog and they are all pack trained and clicker trained. They have a terrific temperment. I have had dogs all my life and I believe that Tina has been and is on the right track and I am grateful to what she has accomplished because I never would have purchased an AKC GSD, but the Shilohs got me from the first view of them. I love these dogs.

We are owned by 3 beautiful Shiloh Shepherds - Simba; Maggie & Kahlua. Our dogs are all ISSR registered and proud to be a member of a huge "Shiloh" family. Tina has worked very hard and continues to work hard to maintain her Shiloh Shepherd breed - she has been a great "Ma" to us all :o)
Take care and smile lots from Debbie Baker a PROUD ISSR member!!

What a Wonderful post about our dogs, our Breed Founder and for "getting it right"! Thank you! I haven't been around for very long, but I am so thankful that I got my girl from Ma Shiloh. Her knowledge and dedication to this breed has no limits.

Thank you for the excellent write up on Shiloh Shepherds. I am owned by 2 (soon to be 3!) ISSR registered Shiloh Shepherds and they are the most awesome, intelligent and loving companions. I am grateful to all the time Tina has put into these magnificent animals, and the time she has spent with her Breeders and Breeders to-be, teaching us everything we need to know to continue her work in developing this breed. It is so great that someone other than a "Shiloh person" recognizes all she is doing :)

Thank you for such a wonderful write up of our breed and breed founder! I recently obtained my new puppy from Tina's kennel. I couldn't be happier! It is incredible to sit next to her, and hear her talk about her breed. She can talk about a dog's lines all the way back to the beggining. I will be eternally grateful to her, fot sticking it out, and continuing her dream, despite the many adversities some have tried to throw her way. Without her vision, this breed would not exist!

Thank you for your wonderful post about Shiloh Shepherds! Tina's knowledge and dedication to her breed are what have gotten these dogs where they are today. Her vision and planning will make them even more spectacular in the future and I consider it a great privilege to be learning from MaShiloh and working as part of her team.

What a wonderful post about my beloved dogs, I sincerely wanted to thank you for sharing your intuitive insight! This has not been an easy road for me to travel, and some of my story has been shared in my Kennel of Origin--The Real History of the Shiloh Shepherd dogs as well as in Whats In a Name .......... but most of it can be found on our Christian Corner, I hope you have some time to read my full story by following the New Home of Zion Kennel links, because if not for my savior, I would not be here today, and this beautiful breed may have fallen by the wayside, like others have done in the past ;(
I hope all of these links work properly, so that I can share my heart even more with your readers! Keep up the great work you are doing!!!

Thanks for taking the time to research the Shiloh Shepherd and write the article from an outsiders point of view seeing through the "hype" and getting it right :)

Tina has been through a lot and all these years later still has the stamina to continue her dream. How often can one deal with the breed founder! I wanted to deal with the person who knows the lines, not by reading a pedigree, but by actually being there for all the years. I admire the determination, and tenacity it has taken, she just keeps going. I am happy my dog came directly from her and many others are as well.

Thank you for your gracious comments on the dogs, WE LOVE OUR SHILOHS and thank Tina Barber for them.
